  1. I read this review at Kathy’s, and it sounds incredible. I had to giggle at your comment that you sat down to start the thing, and ended up the whole thing out in one sitting. You do hear that alot on the blogs, and what a wonderful thing! There is nothing more torturous than to slug your way through a book over a period of a week or more. I’ve added the book to my list based on your (and Kathy’s) amazing review!

I was thrilled to have the time to read it. I basically had no choice. I had been sick a few days so I couldn’t read anything so Saturday I had the whole day to just relax and since I was feeling better and didn’t want to push myself, I just read the entire day. But it was one of those books that I would have been trying to sneak a minute in whenever I got the chance because it was so good and suspenseful. I waned to see what would happen next.

  3. I love it when a book sweeps you off your feet and you’re nearly done with it the next time you look up from the pages. I so rarely get to read for big chunks like that anymore. This does sound like such an interesting book. The cultural/heritage aspect especially caught my eye.

I do think I’m more forgiving now–or at least understanding–of where my parents were coming from when I was growing up. I find I am particularly interested when a book covers several generations and you can see patterns or the cause and effect of parent-child relationships.

The more things I have encountered the more I am amazed at how parents handle all that they do. I definitely cut mine more slack.

I got to read like that cause I was sick and had finally reached a day where I was feeling better but just needed to rest. So I read the entire day.

  6. This sounds amazing, and I hadn’t even heard of it before. And let me just say once again how much I enjoy your detailed, intelligent reviews.

I do enjoy reading books that explore parent-child relationships, and I think I’ve become more understanding/forgiving in the past few years as well. One of my favourite books of this kind is Fun Home by Alison Bedchel.

  7. I love books with intelligent women and that explore both friendship and mother-daughter relationships. Throw in the fact that you were totally swept up in the book — a winner.
