My Foray into Audiobooks
I tried a few audiobooks in the last year. Anna Karenina and some other obscure mystery title whose name I don’t remember. I crashed and burned on both of them. I would listen on my walk to work, maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe one foot was already into figuring out the work day and I couldn’t concentrate with a narrator that was less than compelling. Or maybe I needed something a little bit more modern than Anna to start me off (I hadn’t read it before, so everything was unfamiliar).
I have kept seeing people listening to audiobooks, and it seems as if they are really enjoying them- leading me to think that I really need to give these another shot. So while browsing the audio titles in my library I came upon The Wizard of Oz. I also had the book, which I picked up a few days before because I wanted to see what it would be like to read The Wizard of Oz since I had only seen the movie every year for the first 18 years of my life. Let’s just say that maybe I read the first couple of pages and I listened to the rest. I think that maybe I needed something accessible the first time around. I also listened in a more relaxed state; after work, while puttering around the house. I absolutely loved it! And the Wizard of Oz- so much more good stiff to be found in the book. Isn’t that always the case?
Anyway, I am trying to branch out with the audiobooks and I have picked out a few that I would like try out. I have 3 copies each of The Accountant’s Story, by Roberto Escobar; Women’s Murder Club by James Patterson, Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven, by Susan Jane Gilman; and The Age of the Unthinkable by Joshua Cooper Ramo to giveaway.
Entry is simple. Just leave me a comment with your thoughts on audiobooks, and maybe a recommendation for me for future listening- to be entered. Pick one of the books that you would like to read from above (the cover goes to the description) and that’s it.
I haven’t listened to any of them yet, but I just finished reading Undress Me in the Temple if Heaven, by Susan Jane Gilman, over the weekend and I loved it. I am looking forward to listening to her read her book.
