  1. I've read two by Shriver (We Need to Talk About Kevin and Post Birthday World) and have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I can't wait to pick this one up as well. Thanks for your review.

  2. I've also read the 2 BM read (above) and she's so hard on her characters. Still, I love her writing style, so i am definitely going to be reading more.

    • Yeah, Shriver is "hard on her characters," I completely agree. She's a hit and miss for me, with her stories, but her storytelling is always wonderful. I may not always enjoy what she's talking about, but the way she tells them are always breathtaking.

The Post-Birthday World is one of my favorite novels–looking forward to your thoughts on it.

  3. I like that it's thought provoking, but I'm on the fence with this one. I do want to try out Shriver's work, though, since I've heard so much about it.

I have problems with books with unsympathetic characters. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Nicole.

  5. This was a great review, Nicole! You went much deeper into the book than I did with mine.

  6. I guess I'll start with a different Shriver since i'm not big into tennis.

  7. It was so interesting listening to the discussion about this on That's How I Blog the other night. None of you liked the book but the conversation about the book still went on for an hour. Just goes to show that a discussion-worthy book isn't necessarily a book you like!

  8. While I really liked We Need to Talk About Kevin, I'm not a fan of tennis, so the terminology would probably bore me. I think I'll pass on this one.

  9. Wow, I wanted to read this book because it's about tennis, but after your review, I think I'll pass. Thanks for being honest!
