I am just sort of getting into YA, now. This sounds peaceful and dreamy. I may take a look, keeping the lack of conflict in mind, of course. :)

Love the cover, I will steal it for sure!
This sounds good...wonder if the thing that you complain will put me off too! I mean I can know only after reading it right?

I love the cover of My Most Excellent Year, so I was hoping you'd be blown away by it. I've read plenty of books that would have been improved if they'd been shorter, but of course, my mind is blank right now.

Excellent review. I wonder if the overly positive aspects (little conflict) would bother me.

I don't remember which Harry Potter it was, but one of them spends the first 100+ pages with Harry in suspense about whether he's going to be let back into Hogwarts. Really, was there any question? Spend 5 pages on the non-conflict and let him get to school. (Just my opinion.)

I enjoyed the one Steve Kluger book I read a few years ago (Almost Like Being in Love). This one sounds good too, even with the a little-too-happily-ever-after moments you describe. It most likely will require the right kind of mood for reading then.

I am trying to think of a big tome I wish had been shorter. My problem is that I often end up loving big books--every word of them. I wouldn't change a thing about The Way the Crow Flies, The Historian, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell or Anna Karenina which are the first few chunksters that come to mind. I haven't read Drood yet, but I do hope to.
