There are so many to choose from! A few that come immediately to mind are The Devil You Know by Mike Carey, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, The Strain by Guillermo del Toro, Sunglasses After Dark by Nancy Collins, and a collection of short stories about female vampires called Women of the Night that includes stories by Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and others. If I had to narrow it down though, I guess the spooky tales I’m most passionate about at the present moment are the Locke & Key graphic novels by Joe Hill.
.-= Lisa Damian´s last blog ..Your Favorite Book =-.
One of the scariest books in my mind is The Pit and The Pendulum. I see that blade swinging over the chest of the victim and as it lowers, my heart starts to race faster and faster.

Oh yes, Poe was a horror master!

Although this may not be so much “spooky,” I must say that Margaret Atwood’s “A Handmaid’s Tale,” was indeed the most chilling version of the future I’ve ever read.

It has been years since I’ve read these books, but when I was younger I would often read any book from the “Scary Stories” series by Alvin Schwartz to satisfy my desire to be thoroughly freaked out. Truly creepy stuff.
I think one of the scariest books I have read is Night Stone by Rick Hautala. I first read it as a teen and have read many scary books since but this one sticks in my mind. The feelings you get of being alone in a place far out in the country with no one there to save you and not knowing what is going to be uncovered gets me everytime! Even more so because this one involves a child- your child.
Please enter me in your contest for the books and I hope everyone who reads this will pick this oldie but goodie up.
