Weekly Geeks: 2009-04 ~ Passions

This week’s Weekly Geek is inspired by Dewey’s Knit-a-Long, a mini challenge of Dewey’s Reading Challenge.
Dewey had other passions besides reading and blogging. Knitting was one
of them. This made me think, what are the Weekly Geek’s other passions?

Passion seems like such a big word and a strong one too.  When I think of passion I see people tying themselves up to trees for a cause or throwing paint on people or something extreme.  I am so much quieter with my passion!

I think that I have always had a passion for the arts and anything that I can do with my hands.  I have always collected instruments of art.  Paper, colored pencils, crayons, paint.  I have always loved to doodle and draw whether I have show much proficiency at it or not.

Crochet is a passion of mine at times.  I love the calming feeling that it gives me.  I learned one stitch as a child and have never learned any others.  I have also been working on the same blanket since I was a child, but I don’t think finishing is the point for me, it’s all in the act. I don’t get to do it very often, hence that same unfinished blanket, but I think about it with fondness.

I’m on a league and I play bocce on Sunday afternoons.  Well, I haven’t gone yet this year because my schedule hasn’t really allowed for that much of anything, but I have been doing it for a couple of years and I hope to get back to it soon.

I LOVE to cook and eat!

I love to dress up, and I love to dance.  Here’s me and some friends dressed up roaring ’20’s style for my birthday in 2007.

I love taking pictures.  I don’t know that I show any particular aptitude for any of my hobbies, but that hasn’t seemed to stop me from having them or doing them.  Below is a picture that I took in Florence, Italy.  I was impressed by the fact that so many people biked everywhere as I was by the fact that there is graffiti in Florence.  Somehow this wouldn’t have surprised me as much in Rome.  Probably because I think of it as a grittier city.  But there it is, Florentine graffiti.

I see that another Weekly Geek, Sarah from Behold, The Thing That Reads A Lot likes to crochet and take pictures too!  I love quilts, and Infant Bibliophile knows how to do it.  How pretty!

  1. Great post, I like your thoughts about the crochet blanket. It sounds like it’s almost a meditation for you.
Have you heard of http://www.projectlinus.org ? I thought of it when I saw the title of your blog. Maybe an inspiration to finish!
